a) The basic parallel component analog signal set (red, green, blue) in which a signal is used for each primary color. These three color signals are generated by the camera and are used in the color television’s additive color reproduction system to produce a picture. Also used to refer to the related equipment, interconnect format or standards. The same signals may also be called “GBR” as a reminder of the mechanical sequence of connections in the SMPTE interconnect standard.

A 16-byte long error control code added to every 187 (scrambled) +1 syncbyte-long transport packet with the following result. The packet has a length of 204 bytes and the decoder can correct up to T = 8 errored bytes. This code ensures a residual error bit rate of approximately 1x10–11 at an input error rate of 2x10–4.

Computer controlled VCRs, edit controllers, switchers, and other studio equipment can commonly be found in professional video studios. Successfully linking two devices, at the very least, requires that they use the same communication protocol.
